Back in October we launched a competition to name our crocheted carrot companion, lovingly handmade by our Knowledge Skills Librarian to become a symbol for our Seed Library. At our #GreenLibrariesWeek Open Day we opened the draw for suggestions from our visitors, and received more online submissions from colleagues over the next couple of weeks. We had over 165 entries and our judging panel had a lot of fun combing through the suggestions.

However, among those entries there was one that stood out. Not only for the alliteration, but the story behind the submission.

We're pleased to announce that our winner is Kirsty Matthews, a Warwick Medical School student on placement with the Paediatric Physiotherapy team! Her suggestion was Coby.

The inspiration for her suggestion came from a patient she met through the Cystic Fibrosis Clinic. That patient, Kobe, told her about his love of gardening - particularly rainbow carrots. After following up with Kirsty about her win, she told us that Kobe used gardening as a great form of exercise to help strengthen his lungs. Given the purpose of our Seed Library is to help develop community, activity and wellbeing, this seemed like a perfect choice!

As the winner of the competition, Kirsty received a goody bag of gardening tools and seeds, but in a wonderful gesture of kindness, she gifted the prize to Kobe, thanking him for inspiring the name of our Seed Library mascot.

So, welcome to the team Coby the Carrot! Thank you to all of the participants in this competition who were waiting very patiently for the results while we made sure we could share Kobe's story. UHCW Staff can read more about Kobe and the competition in today's edition of This Week@UHCW.
