This Black History Month, we’re bringing colleagues together for a special Library Open Day, delivered in collaboration with UMEN - the UHCW Multicultural Employee Network.
This event is a special opportunity to celebrate the contribution of Black colleagues to the NHS, connect with one another and showcase the services, resources, and support available to you at UHCW. Whether you’re already a regular library user or have never visited before, there will be something for everyone!
Discover what your library has to offer
Our team will be on hand throughout the afternoon to answer your questions and help you make the most of your library. Come along to find out about the resources you can access, discover something new to read or explore, and speak to the team about how the library can support you.
We’ll also be joined by some of our library suppliers, Open Fifth, Wolters Kluwer, Browns Books, Elsevier and ThirdIron, giving you the chance to browse and find out more about their resources and how they can work for you. A huge thank to you our suppliers for their generous sponsorship of this event.
Get involved
This year’s BHM theme is ‘Honouring our Communities’. We’ll be hosting a range of activities and interactive displays, giving colleagues the opportunity to recognise the contributions, experiences, cultures and stories that enrich our workplace:
- Read about our UHCW heroes in our community garden display, and take a moment to add your own.
- Share with us your favourite African and Caribbean recipes (and the stories behind them) to feature in our community recipe display. Get your entries in to Francesca.Emter@uhcw.nhs.uk before October 19th, and come along to the open day to get some new dinner inspiration.
- Discover more new recipes from our Big Tasty Read display and cookbook collection and discover what the library has to offer beyond our healthcare textbooks!
And, of course, no celebration would be complete without something to eat! Free Caribbean food will be adding some flavour to the occasion, thanks to a fantastic menu provided by ISS.
So, come along, say hello and celebrate Black History Month with us! Whether you drop in with a library question, want to sample some Caribbean food, meet our suppliers, or simply catch up with colleagues, we’d love to see you.
